Programming

Leadership in Training

June 22nd to August 1st: Running for six weeks in two week increments

Revamping our JrCIT program, our Leaders in Training “LIT” program is designed for teens looking to gain professional experiences through working with young children and adults at our Trailblazer Camp. The LITs will be mentored by a director as they progress through the program. LITs will be able to gain first-hand experience of the roles and responsibilities of a counselor. The LIT program  will serve as a foundation for working in a camp and other professional environments.

Campers will have the option to participate on the Tenderfoot Campus, with our 3-6 year olds, or the Trailblazer Campus. The Tenderfoot Campus will utilize the LIT’s to work with counselors and specials counselors within the bunk system all day. Trailblazer LIT’s will spend the morning assisting a special’s counselor, and meet in the afternoon to participate in Leadership Programming and Team Building.

Speciality Sessions

June 22nd to August 1st: Running for six weeks in two week increments. Each program runs for half day and campers join with the LIT’s for the last part of the day for Leadership Training and Team-Building.

Parallel to the LIT program we are offering three exciting, two week long stand-alone sessions tailored uniquely to the teen. These three sessions are offered by Friends’ Central’ finest faculty and staff.

Session 1, June 22nd to July 2nd: The first session will be a hands on lab based program for the scientist and non-scientist alike. Seeking out fact vs fiction, kids will be debunking commonly held notions and have them understand they way the world really works. Guaranteed fun.

Session 2, July 6-17: Sound and Spirit will have kids tap into their passion for music. Using a media of their choice, kids will develop a passion project to share with the world.  We will use our brand new sound studio as part of this course. No experience necessary.

Session 3, July 20th to August 1: Mind and Body: Outdoor Adventure and Wellness will have campers getting back to nature by learning how to work and live in the great outdoors. Campers will spend time at the Lower School Garden, learn about biodiversity and sustainable practices, dash through a ropes course, and practice yoga for centering.

The final week, August 3-7 will be a camping experience. Campers will practice their camping skills on campus before travelling into the wilderness for an overnight adventure.

Leadership Training and Team Building

During the afternoons at Crossroads for campers in the Speciality sessions and Trailblazer LITs, campers will participate in team building activities, service learning, and leadership workshops. They will explore the importance of mindfulness, safety awareness (including CPR training), professional etiquette, and conflict resolution. This will be a time for campers to build upon their morning experiences and to help develop the skills needed for future leadership roles.
