Summer STEAM

Ready to bring your ideas to life? This camp is led by Upper School physics teacher and  head coach of FCS’s Upper School FIRST Robotics team, The Earthquakers, Matt Schoifet, who will guide you through CAD design, Java coding, and the entire process of building and programming robotic mechanisms. You'll use OnShape for 3D modeling, code with Java, and fabricate with tools like CNC machines, 3D printers, and laser cutters in a fully-equipped metalworking studio. Whether you're a complete beginner or looking to level up your skills, this camp offers the perfect mix of creativity, problem-solving, and hands-on learning. By the end of the week, you'll walk away with real-world robotics experience and a whole new set of skills for your next projects.

Led by expert designer and artist Qil Jones, middle schoolers will explore Design Thinking, learn to problem-solve, prototype, and create. Working in teams, campers will design, build, and play their own board games using 3D printing and laser cutting. You'll craft game pieces, boards, and unique elements, while learning to collaborate and test your creations with your teammates. By the end of the week, you'll walk away with a fully realized game—complete with rules and an original world. Get ready to design, build, and play your masterpiece!

Get ready to dive into the world of robots! This camp is led by expert designer and artist Qil Jones and gives you the chance to explore the exciting world of robotics through the FIRST LEGO League! Campers will learn how to design, build, and program their very own automated robots using LEGO bricks and the powerful spike prime system. Along the way, you’ll explore coding with fun and easy-to-learn programs like Scratch and the spike prime software. Whether you’re solving challenges, racing robots, or creating your own innovations, you'll discover the magic of making machines move and think. By the end of the week, you'll have the skills and confidence to join a FIRST LEGO League competition—where creativity, teamwork, and coding come to life. Unlock your inner maker and discover the art of woodworking in this hands-on summer camp! Guided by expert carpenter CJ Keller, you'll explore the fundamentals of the craft by building a folding campfire seat, a cutting board, and other small projects. From milling and cutting to joinery and finishing, you’ll gain a solid foundation in essential woodworking techniques. Using the Engineering Design Process, CJ will help you bring your ideas to life, guiding you from initial concept to final assembly. By week’s end, you'll leave with a beautiful, functional piece of furniture—and the confidence and skills to keep creating long after camp ends. Ready to craft your masterpiece?
